Now you see me, Now you don't
Like most Basan, it was said when you human's would set their eye on them, or look for them, the firey fowl would disappear before your eyes. Kurenai achieves this parlor trick with good old fashion boughts of invisibility. She often uses this to sometimes spy on the guests, ensuring they are enjoying the food coming from the kitchen.

It's all for show
Kurenai is able to breath mass amounts of 'cold' fire like all Basan. While not incredible damaging as regular fire, it does create quite the show, especially when she's raving for a dish to be perfect before it goes out.

Transformation
Kurenai is able to shift between her humanoid form and her plucky clucky bird form. Though she doesn't have complete control over this, usually reverting back to her fowl form when she starts a sneezing fit.


   Personal Information

    Personality:  Kurenai seems to be split personality wise depending on where the woman is. In the kitchen, the little hen practically grows into a dragon. She's very dedicated to her work and ensuring anything going out is made to literal perfection for the customers. Unfortunately, this mentality can often mean she's rather short and blunt with her fellow workers. She's quick to snap and even quicker to strike fear into any non-chef who tries to come mess around in the kitchen. While sometimes hard to work with due to her gruff nature in the kitchen, she is always quick to doll out advise to her fellow chefs...even if that advise is coming out laced with insults.

    Outside of the kitchen the woman drastically changes, seeming to relax and enjoy lounging about in the bathhouse workers sleeping quarters, talking casually with other workers (many who seem unnerved by her as they have often been yelled at by her in the past). Though she will remain rather snark and sarcastic with undertones of humor mixed into her words. Her friends are used to this dramatic switch, while others find the juxtaposition rather jarring.

    History:

Kurenai's start and life were rather mundane. She followed her sibling and parents eagerly in the nights, clucking and strutting along as they waited around villages and towns for the people to finally sleep so they could move in and eat the left over ash and coal from the dying fires. It was one such night Kurenai, being rather impatient and 'dying' of hunger that she entered early, eagerly scrambling along thinking of all the burnt bits she would get before her siblings appeared.

It was here that Kurenai first saw the people cooking, rather than the dead fire she was used to stumbling upon. The little basan watched ardently, fascinated by the method and process the humans were going through the prepare an assortment of different delicacies. She was so used to the cooling coals that she never knew the actual purpose they performed before. Night after night Kurenai would scurrying in early, under the cover of invisibility and obsessively watch the humans cook, noting and learning all their different techniques.

When she finally gained a humanoid form the girl would use her new hands to try and start re-creating these items. Over and over the girl worked until she was able to perfect a multitude of techniques...and the left over bits of the fire were a bit of a bonus. Her family seemed to shirk from her cooking, preferring the coals she left behind. Kurenai grew frustrated, unable to cook for her family and their picky ways, and set off to search for a place she could put her lovely hobby to work. It was this path that eventually lead the Basan to the bathhouse. She gleefully joined the kitchen staff and strenuously worked, carefully and slowly climbing the sections of the kitchen until she finally landed a job as one of the sous-chefs.  One evening while moving about the kitchen she caught a young boiler room worker, Chiaki, attempting to grab a five finger discount from some items meant for guests. Off the Basan ran, chasing the little spirit while waving a giant wooden spoon. It was in this moment of panic Chiaki threw back some coal. In an act of pure instinct Kurenai snapped it out of the air, chewing it quickly. Temporarily embarrassed over her actions she started talking with the young spirit and a deal was struck.Chiaki would taste test Kurenai's food and in exchange Chiaki would give Kurenai pieces of coal or charcoal to eat from the Boiler Room.


    Additional Info:

* Has a constant fear she will accidentally transform randomly into her chicken form and be mistaken for that evenings dinner
* While she enjoys cooking and obsesses over the flavor, she's rather ashamed that she still finds herself craving and often hoarding bits of charcoal/burnt wood or ash
* From her 'snacking' diet her inner lips will often be stained grey or black. She tries to keep atop this as she finds it rather embarrassing
* She wont let anyone steal from the kitchen but she's not opposed to bartering. Be it a favor for one of her meat stuffed pastries or a few extra pillows to get her 'test' recipes whenever they come.
